The violence began in the Sighthill area before reports emerged of additional incidents in other parts of Edinburgh, including Telford Road and Leith Walk. Five men, aged between 22 and 39, suffered injuries, with several requiring hospital treatment. Officials said none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
Videos circulating on social media appeared to show the suspect being restrained by police while making anti-Muslim remarks. Investigators are examining the footage as part of their inquiry.
