Pentagon lockdown

WASHINGTON, D.C., UNITED STATES — Multiple floors and corridors inside the Pentagon were placed under lockdown and several areas were evacuated on Thursday after an air quality issue was detected within the building, according to officials and sources familiar with the situation.

Three sources told CNN that portions of the Pentagon were locked down while emergency procedures were implemented. Hazmat teams were reportedly deployed to assess the situation and determine whether any potential health risks existed.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed that monitoring systems inside the Pentagon had detected an air quality issue, prompting precautionary measures.

“Systems within the Pentagon have detected an air quality issue necessitating precautionary measures until we determine its significance,” Parnell said.

Officials emphasized that the response was precautionary while specialists investigate the source and severity of the air quality concern. No immediate information regarding injuries or hazardous substances has been released.

Emergency personnel continue to evaluate conditions inside the building, and authorities are expected to provide additional updates as the investigation progresses.

This is a developing story, and more information will be added as it becomes available.
