Massive Explosion Sparks Major Industrial Fire in Essex; Residents Urged to Keep Windows Closed

Essex, United Kingdom – Emergency services are responding to a major industrial fire following a powerful explosion at a site on Southend Road, between East Hanningfield and Rettendon, Essex.

The explosion, which some local reports suggest may have involved a fertiliser storage facility at Highlands Farm, was heard and felt across a large part of Essex. Residents living as far as 10 to 12 miles away reported hearing a loud blast and feeling their homes shake.

Thick plumes of black smoke were seen rising high into the sky, visible from several surrounding towns and villages, prompting concern among local communities.

As part of the emergency response, Southend Road has been closed between Rettendon Turnpike and South Hanningfield Road, with motorists asked to seek alternative routes until further notice.
