Tornado Watch Issued for Parts of Maryland

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Tornado Watch for multiple counties across Maryland, effective until 9:00 p.m. Saturday, as severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes move through the region.

The tornado watch includes the following counties:

  1. Anne Arundel
  2. Baltimore
  3. Calvert
  4. Caroline
  5. Cecil
  6. Harford
  7. Kent
  8. Queen Anne's
  9. Talbot

A tornado watch means that weather conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes, along with damaging wind gusts, large hail, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall. Residents in the affected areas should remain alert, closely monitor weather updates, and be prepared to take shelter if a tornado warning is issued.

Emergency officials advise people to identify the safest place in their homes or workplaces, preferably a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor away from windows. Those outdoors or traveling should have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and be ready to act quickly if conditions worsen.

The National Weather Service continues to monitor the evolving storm system, and additional watches or warnings may be issued as severe weather develops across the region.
